The Silk Roads: A New History of the World

A lecture in English by Dr Peter Frankopan, Director of the Oxford Centre for Byzantine Research at Oxford University

Organised by the Hellenic Society of Professional People and Scientists in Great Britain.

In 2015, Dr Frankopan published The Silk Roads: A New History of the World. The book became a global bestseller, topping the charts around the world, including in India, Pakistan, China, the Gulf, Ireland and the UK – where it spent 30 weeks in The Sunday Times Top 10. Silk Roads has been described as described as ‘breathtaking’ (Daily Telegraph), ‘magnificent’ (Sunday Times). Silk Roads was named The Daily Telegraph’s History Book of the Year 2015.

Dr Frankopan lectures around the world. In the last twelve months, he has given talks at Harvard, Yale, UNICEF, the UN, the Einstein Forum, Shanghai, Astana, Dubai as well as in Hong Kong, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India and Copenhagen as well as to the Foreign Office and in Parliament. He also writes often in the national and international press about history and its relevance today.
