The European Movement and the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK have organised a ‘Leading Not Leaving’ rally in North Finchley to urge UK Cypriots to vote for the UK to remain in the European Union on 23rd June.
There are an estimated 300,000 Britons of Cypriot origin who live and work in the UK. The rally will highlight why it benefits the Cypriot diaspora for the UK to remain a member of the European Union.
A vote to leave would impact the prices of Cypriot produce in the UK, the freedom to travel and work between the UK and Cyprus, as well as the 10,000 Cypriot students who study in the UK every year. In addition, a Brexit would mean that Cyprus loses a powerful ally in the European Union.
Speaking ahead of the event, Christos Karaolis (President of the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK) said: “We encourage the entire Cypriot diaspora here in the UK to vote for Britain to remain in the EU on June 23. It is the best interests of our country, Europe and indeed Cyprus. Come along and put your questions to our distinguished panel on June 14 to find out why.”
Panel discussion speakers include, Rt. Hon. Nicky Morgan MP (Secretary of State for Education), Rt. Hon. Norman Lamb MP (former Health and Social Care Minister), Catherine West MP (Shadow Foreign Minister & Trustee of the APPG on Cyprus), Sir Alan Meale MP (Secretary of the APPG on Cyprus), Mike Freer MP.
Reception will follow.
