Launch of Reading’s Corpus of Cypriote Antiquities – Reading

An event celebrating the catalogue publication of the 113 Cypriote objects in Ure Museum of Greek Archaeology at the University of Reading and Reading Museum.

The objects ranging from pottery, lamps and metalwork to ceramic and stone sculpture, were donated to the museums in the 20th century.

Some of these artefacts were collected by the Palmer family during their 19th century travels in Cyprus while others were formerly in the British Museum.

Some of the items were given in honour of specific individuals, such as W M Childs, the first Vice Chancellor of the University of Reading.

More than 50% of the objects are on display in the Ure Museum while others are actively used by local children as part of the Reading Museum School Loans scheme.

Free entry but registration essential at https://culturalcy.eventbrite.co.uk, [email protected] or on 0118 378 6990.

Organised by the Cultural Department of the Cyprus High Commission.
