Once Upon A Time in Greece… a celebration of music from the Mediterranean II
Calling all young musicians from 6-18 – Choir, bouzouki, guitar, violin, viola, cello, flute, mandolin etc.
Get up, Sing, Play & Dance
Greek Music Children’s Workshop & Performance is designed for children and young people aged 6 to 18 years old from every community living in London.
The workshop, will be led by professional musicians and educationalists who are currently active in performing this genre of music in the UK.
The participants will have the opportunity to take part in a concert presented to parents and the community in the same afternoon, singing as part of the choir or playing alongside the professional musicians.
Children will learn to sing and play beloved and popular Greek tunes on the guitar, bouzouki, baglama, violin and other instruments, songs from a wide range of Greek classic music including Rebetika songs by Tsitsanis and Vamvakaris as well as repertoire from Theodorakis, Hadjidakis and Xarhakos. The aim of the workshop is to introduce to and teach them about the rhythms and music of their culture, in a relaxed and fun environment.
All instruments are welcome, but if you do not play, just bring your voices… the most important instrument of all! Students must have their own instruments.
Each student will receive a certificate of participation to the workshop.
Please provide your children with packed lunches. We will have drinks and light snacks for support!
The proceeds raised from the event will go towards supporting concerts of the Rebetiko Carnival Charity in schools, special needs residences, hospitals and care homes throughout the UK.
Rebetiko Carnival is a festival happening from 2 February 2018 to the end of June, whereby some of the greatest musicians will be coming from Greece to perform concerts and give workshops throughout London and the UK. The Rebetiko Carnival has been awarded official Charity Status, and as such is dedicated to bringing educational and outreach projects to the communities with which they work. The workshops and concert on the 22nd of April are one of the many projects that will take place throughout the whole year.
