Book launch: ‘Captain Fly’s Bucket List’ by Agnes Marton (poetry reading)

‘Captain Fly’s Bucket List’, composed by Legaki as a traditional extension back to Schoenberg’s ‘Pierrot Lunaire’ and Maxwell Davies’ ‘Eight Songs for a Mad King’, is a first time collaboration between Legaki and Marton. It may be regarded as a song cycle for a conventional duet, baritone voice and classical guitar, with function of a performance ritual within a concert setting. Approaching the chamber music as theatre and borrowing characteristics from opera as an art form (arias-recitatives), the work has been conceived as an opera duet. The basic idea of an opera duet is the interaction of two musicians as soloists in a virtuosic manner, as opposed to a voice accompanied by guitar.

The performance revolves around desires and expectations, fulfilment and loss.

According to columnist Sydney J. Harris “Regret for the things we did can be tempered by time; it is regret for the things we did not do that is inconsolable.”
